Photo from http://letsbefriends.blogspot.com/2004/08/monkey-and-dog.htmlOne of my favorite things to learn about is evolution. I find the human-dog evolution connection particularly fascinating, and this story poses an interesting question:
Do Dogs Make us Human?
The premise is that early on, humans and pre-humans connected with wolves for mutual benefit. The relationship was one of more equal status, not like modern pet ownership. Now, we can take a step back and see that dogs are different than wolves in many of the same ways that humans are different than other primates. This quote pretty much sums it up:
"A lot of the things we do that the other primates don’t are dog things. The Australian group thinks it was the dogs who showed us how." (The Australian group is the group who did a study of this).
It's a fascinating and thought-provoking read, and the comments are as well.
